Gaza de Ciukci, called Jenna, was my first Siberian Husky and my great love at first sight.

Selina and I had actually driven to the Polar Wilderness kennel to look at puppies. That it would end up being not a puppy but a seven-year-old female from Mallorca was not planned at all. But when I met Jenna, it was quickly clear to me that she belonged with us.

What I did not know at the time: Selina had already spoken to our property management and obtained permission for a second dog. And so Jenna became my very special birthday surprise.

Jenna was a true free spirit and showed me what makes a Siberian Husky so special. At the same time, she taught us that a Husky is not the right breed for everyone. She was independent, self-assured and had a mind of her own. Even so, she was always at our side and became a firm part of our lives.

Whether on a twelve-hour hike or in the office, Jenna was there. Outdoors she was full of energy and always ready for the next adventure. In the office, however, she had priorities of her own: at nine o’clock sharp she was waiting for her share of the tuna sandwich.

For nine years I was allowed to have Jenna at my side. She was headstrong, free, sometimes a little stubborn and at the same time incredibly warm-hearted. She showed her loyalty in her very own way.

Jenna shaped my love for the Siberian Husky and brought this fascinating breed closer to me. She was not only my first Husky, but also the dog through whom a very special bond with this breed came about for me.
