Zarina, our sunshine

Zarina was with us far too briefly. And still, in that time, she took a place in our hearts that no one can ever fill again.

Her birth was difficult from the start. She came into the world neck first and carried lasting damage from it. Zarina was therefore never a “normal” dog. And that is exactly what made her so special to us.

Despite her limitations, we wanted to give her the best possible life. She met those challenges in her own, often astonishingly inventive way, and showed us every day that what matters is not what you cannot do, but what you make of it. She became our sunshine, a loving, cheerful and wonderful member of the family.

Sadly, luck was not always on her side. Her limitations made her a little clumsy at times, and she had to go to the animal clinic more often than we would have liked. But she never let anything take her joy in life away.

Then came a gastrointestinal illness. Although we reacted at once and everything medically possible was tried, E. coli bacteria passed from her intestine into her body and finally destroyed her lungs. We had to let her go far too soon.

We still miss Zarina every single day. At the same time we are endlessly grateful that she was able to be with us from her first day to her last.

She taught us more than we ever expected. Through her we learned an enormous amount about health, whelping, development and breeding. She taught us to look more closely, never to give up, and always to keep searching for a solution.

After her death we had a post-mortem carried out. The examination confirmed clearly that her limitations were caused by the difficult birth and the external forces that acted on her during it.

We would have wished her so much more time. But we are grateful for every single day with her.

Our little sunshine. ❤️
